"A day spent without the sight or sound of beauty, the contemplation of mystery, or the search of truth or perfection is a poverty-stricken day; and a succession of such days is fatal to human life."
Lewis Mumford is something of a favorite of mine. He was an early voice warning of the dangers of the use of technology to further consumption for the sake of consumption (e.g., planned obsolesce). In Wikipedia they write: "In The Myth of the Machine Vol II: The Pentagon of Power (Chapter 12) (1970), Mumford criticizes the modern trend of technology, which emphasizes constant, unrestricted expansion, production, and replacement. He contends that these goals work against technical perfection, durability, social efficiency, and overall human satisfaction."
Lewis Mumford...not very well known but he sort of exemplifies the frequent truth that folks who come up with astute and true ideas tend to not be paid much attention...especially if they fly in the face of societal practices. Thanks for quoting him.

Nina looks so shiny! And comfy.. :)
I agree totally with this.
Kinda sounds like the last nine days of sick ...
dark and mysterious...only cats can look like that
Nina looks so lovely. Excellent quote, too! Beauty and mystery fill our days, if we but remain open to it.
Agree!
I love the quote and I agree.
The cat looks beautiful on that wine color (ut oh, wine!) comforter. Like a painting.
